The United Kingdom Chapter was organized in the spring of 1986. Two of the original members are still with us over 25 years
later!! Mostly working women, our chapter meets on Saturday mornings.
Fundraisers through the years have been garage sales; a traditional English Christmas party "What the Dickens", complete with
Christmas carols, English foods and wassail; a Champagne Brunch in April; a British movie night during the hot summer months
in conjunction with a pot luck supper/wine tasting and, in early fall, a barbecue.
In addition to supporting our primary charity, Mountbatten House, we support CASA, a temporary Salvation Army shelter for
teenagers (10 - 17) who are in crisis. At Christmas we provide some funds toward their Christmas dinner as well as wrapped
Christmas presents. Throughout the year we collect clothes, books, games and various necessary supplies.
Over the years, members have come and gone, but we try to stay in touch and always enjoy welcoming them back during visits.
As a Chapter, we endeavor to be helpful and caring when our ladies have suffered illnesses or lost loved ones and especially
relish celebrating happy events in our members' lives. We are more than just a social club but we do support our group in times
of need particularly for those far away from their families. Our founder, Mrs. Langstaff, started DBE with these ideals in mind
and we hope to continue following her example.
