Flora MacDonald Chapter was chartered in October of 1966 and we meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the evening.
Our main fundraiser is operating the Tearoom at the annual Houston Bazaar with Thomas A Becket Chapter, which is one of the mainstays of the Bazaar.
Over the years we have had several successful "Crazy Bridge and Supper" evenings; A Pub Night; Luncheon & Fashion Shows; Garage Sales; Pancake Day luncheons; Bake sales; Craft sales and auctions. The chapter has taken part in: the Houston International Festival, Tea at the Hyatt featuring the Speaker of the House of Commons, The Queen's Birthday Teas, PBS telethons and British Weeks at local supermarkets. The Chapter has also supported other local chapters in their fundraising endeavors.
In addition to our support of Mountbatten House, we have supported local charities such as: Magnificat House; Mayor's Telephone Reassurance Service; American Cancer Society; True Light Senior Citizens; Sheltering Arms; Memorial Assistance Ministries; Bear Creek Assistance Ministries; National Children's Cancer Society; Goodfellows; The Red Cross; Toys for Tots; SEARCH; Battered Wives; Women's Center; Local needy families and residents in Nursing Homes.
