Drury Lane Chapter of the DBE was formed in 1972 in San Angelo Texas: two charter members, Mavis (Clarkson) Bell and
Barbara Tucker are still with the Chapter.
Through the years we have found various ways to raise funds for Mountbatten House and our local charities, which include -
Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society, Boys and Girls Club and the Concho Valley Home for Girls.
In 1984 we held our first "Taste of Britain" at Fort Concho; this consisted of a tea room, arts and crafts area, baked goods and
consignment of British goods. Since 1991 we have held it at Emmanuel Episcopal Church's parish hall. For over 36 years we
have held a spring Fish and Chips dinner or pot luck supper.
Keeping in touch with our heritage, we have celebrated milestones in the Royal family such as the Silver Jubilee of Queen
Elizabeth II, the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and the wedding of Prince William to Catherine
Middleton. To these functions we have invited members of the DAR and local dignitaries. As a group we have participated in
the Rodeo Parade on floats that have ranged from Pearly Kings and Queens, Medieval ladies to Robin Hood.
On a social level we have held barbecues, attended the local theater and enjoyed each others company. Each Christmas we
hold a hen party at a members home in addition to a member and spouse evening out. We have been blessed with caring
members and have been there for each other in good times and sad times.
